This photo was taken in my back garden. Using 2 roses, an eye dropper with water and a vase. It was my first attempt at getting a water drop reflection and it must have taken me 2 hours and about 100 attempts. I had to contend with a shaking hand (holding the reflecting rose), water that would not form into a drop, shadows and wind.Time
I have a very small back yard and the sun is only on it for part of the day. I started late morning and finished early afternoon. I had to also make sure there was no wind blowing for this do it yourself experiment.Lighting
I needed full sun to be able to get the reflection but I also had to make sure there was no shadowingEquipment
I have a Canon 600D. I used my canon 50mm macro lens (prime) and a tripod.Inspiration
I had seen some beautiful water drop images and just thought I would give it a try. It was a very rewarding and frustrating experience which was a lesson in patience and practice. I was very proud of my achievements considering it was done outside with no special lubricants (glycerine) using very basic equipment. It remains one of my best accomplishementsEditing
Other than cropping no other post processing was requiredIn my camera bag
I have just the one camera the 600D. I have 2 lens, a Tamron 16-300mm and a Canon 50mm prime lens. I also have a 10 step graduated filter and a neutral density filter, a remote control, a dual sided silver/gold reflector, spare battery, spare cards and cleaning equipmentFeedback
Patience patience patience. To make life a little easier find a sunny or very well light spot inside. I have since learnt that using a little liquid glycerine in the water will hold your water drop for longer. I held onto the rose that was being reflected which again made it quite difficult to hold still. pegging the flower to a holder would alleviate any movement. Lets just say I did it the hard way
