In 1899, The Vaughn-Webb House was built as a community building by the Hiwassee Union Church. The first floor was utilized by the church with the 2nd floor being used by the Masonic Lodge. During the week, it would be used as a school for the local children.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Harold Webb at the Watchman's House across the Hiwassee River you see in the background. Along with The Vaughn-Webb House, the family also has two other structures listed on the national register. Thank you Harold for sharing your family history, your time and your hospitality.

My mom is from Etowah and Papaw lived in the Vaughn-Webb homeplace when he was 5 and picked tobacco worms off the plants in the field across the street. I entered pics of it. I grew up riding up and down this river road. Fond memories. Beautiful pic. I recognized it immediately when I saw it voting.
