On October 7, 2008, at 8:52am, the aggressive chill of night holds the temperature just above freezing in Rock Creek's Iris Meadow Campground. Its inhabitants have yet to feel the feel the warmth of the sun, you have trouble finding the necessary dexterity to perform even the simplest tasks, but Derian Gordon, having been warmed by his many layers of clothing, now cooks bacon over a propane-fueled stove. Another thirty minutes and the sun will breach the horizon, frost will melt and shorts are almost preferred over your suddenly awkawrd cold weather gear. A warm meal readies you for a crisp mountain day.
