Location
This is a picture of the skyline of Kansas City, Missouri. I took the picture from the observation deck at the World War I museum.Time
I took the picture at about 8:15pm in May, 2014.Lighting
The sunset that day was just special and I had been taking pictures from the Scout statue about a mile away and decided to try to get some shoots of the night time skyline of the city.Equipment
I was using the Canon 70D and the Canon zoom lens EF 16-35mm 1:2.8L II USM. I did use a tripod.Inspiration
It was just a perfect late Spring day and I had a feeling that the light was going to be really special. I had been planning on taking pictures of downtown Kansas City for some time and with it being a Sunday evening, I figured that there would not be many people around. This was the second stop on my photo journey that day. I had stopped and took some pictures at the KC Scout statue and then went to the World War I memorial to get some pictures of the skyline. I had seen a similar picture like this at a local photo store.Editing
I did use iPhoto to adjust the exposure and contrast. Once that was done I played with the shadows and highlights. Lastly, I tried to improve the clarity. iPhoto really limits you on what you can do to improve a photo however. In my camera bag
I use a Canon 70D and a Canon Rebel T1i cameras. The lens I carry are the ones that came with the cameras, plus a Canon zoom lens EF 16-35mm 1:2.8L II USM; a Canon zoom lens EF-5 10-22mm 1:3.5-4.5 USM; and a Canon zoom lens EF 70-200mm 1:2.8 L IS II USM plus UV and CP filters for each. I carry a tripod and remote for the camera, a pair of binoculars, and a flash light.Feedback
Invest in better photo editing programs like Photoshop, Lightroom, Intensity and Intensity Pro, and Tonality. They have really helped in my photo editing since I took this picture. Second, take plenty of shots. I wanted to get the fountain and the Western Auto sign to peak at the same time. I came close but to never get the two to match. I will probably be heading back to that location again this spring trying to get the perfect shot. Please wish me luck!!!
