Location
Cedar Cove Feline Conservation and Education Center in Louisburg, KansasTime
About 3:30 in the afternoon right before feeding time.Lighting
Lighting was natural in semi shade with the sun behind me but into the tiger’s faceEquipment
Camera was a handheld Canon with a 100x400 telephoto lensInspiration
Mainly, I got lucky by being in a good place at the right timeEditing
Post processing was mainly cropping of the shot to eliminate as much of the enclosure bars as possible and then change to black and white using Intensity Pro.In my camera bag
Four lenses-macro, standard, wide angle, and telephoto. A selection of filters and a monopod and tripod.Feedback
I have been to Cedar Cove five times now, but I got this shot on my first visit. I love taking pictures of all their animals. But the one thing that is very clear to me, I can not duplicate the shot because the animals have gotten much larger and the tiger’s face is now much wider than the opening in the bars.
