Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the Man'o'War bay next to Durdle Door in Dorset.

Time

It was in the middle of the afternoon - I used a ten stop Lee filter to slow down the exposure - which was 30 seconds. I just loved that collection of rocks with the channel leading your eye straight to them.

Lighting

It would've been better if I had chosen a longer exposure really to smooth out the sea a little more...

Equipment

I used a Nikon on a Manfroto tripod

Inspiration

It was a lovely quiet day - but with very strong sunlight. So I doubted I could get a good shot. So I was pleasantly surprised with the result.

Editing

Not really no. I try to get it right in camera. I processed it in Silver Effx, adjusting brightness and contrast only - then added some grain.

In my camera bag

24-70 and 80-400mm lenses with a 50mm standard lens and 60mm macro. I only have two camera bodies, A Nikon D800 and an anniversary Nikon F5.

Feedback

Straightforward experimentation with a 10 or 20 stop ND filter. But don't forget to fill up the mirror first, pause for at least 10 seconds then trip the shutter...
