Location
I attended a nice workshop about Lost Places in Heilstätten Beelitz near Berlin (Germany), 2014Time
It was dark at night and we learned a lot about long time exposure, light painting and stuff like that. It was the first time I used my tripod, what a horrible thing in the beginning. Where to twist? How to attach the camera on it? I was confused, but then the show started. One of the workshops guys used steel wool in an old pavilion and I decided to try a 30 seconds shot. But the pavilion was not high enough and the burning steel wool struck against the ceiling - you can see the imperfect rotation in my photo.Lighting
It's just 30 seconds, ISO 200 - long time exposure and the burning steel wool.Equipment
Nikon D700, 50 mm f/1.4 lens f/8.0 at ISO 200, 30 seconds exposure, tripod, no flash, no automatic release, no remote-control releaseInspiration
The magic of light, thunder, and darkness.Editing
I used simple lightroom for post-processing. It was the beginning of learning lightroom. Only some micro contrasts, shadows high, some orange, I guess. In my camera bag
Usually I travel a lot with my Nikon D700, a "travel lens" (24-85 mm, f/3.5-4.5) and the 50 mm f/1.4. Sometimes I decide to take the old 80-200 mm f/2.8 with me. But I want to travel light. A normal travel tripod is always with me as well a GPS dongle and a small camera water-level. That's it.Feedback
Have a friend with no fear, some steel wool, lighter and a nice location. Use a tripod, maybe with a remote-control release. That's it.
