This photo was taken in Lincoln, Nebraska on the south side of town. One of the more dangerous things about this photos is that I"m actually sitting on a wall of rocks balancing my tripod on a questionable surface. That's my style though, I will put my equipment in harms way just to get the shot I want. I figure if I lose my camera it would have died doing what it loved!Time
This photo was taken about 2pm not an ideal time to take a landscape shot but once I saw it I couldn't just turn around I had to pull over and try to work with what nature was giving me.Lighting
From the moment I saw this I was thinking "Long exposure, of course!" I thought long exposure would really bring out the drama in this shot with the speed of the rushing water. Funny thing was when I pulled over I had to park some distance away and walk to this site, but after the long walk I realized I forgot my ND filter... I wasn't to be deterred so I turned around and got it and came back.Equipment
For this one I used a tripod because the long exposure. The Camera is a Canon Rebel t2i, the lens is the Canon 10-18mm Wide angle and finally a good 10-stop ND filter.Inspiration
I love photographing water especially during long exposures! There's just this element of mystery and drama to it and the movement seems to have the ability to transport one to a different world. I live in Nebraska so water shots are hard to come by so any time you find something like this, you have to get it while you can!Editing
I used Lightroom to post process this photo. There was some lightening of the rocks as I wasn't happy with the "out of camera" darkness, I really wanted to bring that texture out to mix it with the movement of the water, aside from that the rocks looked really cool with some interesting colors to add to the mix.In my camera bag
I usually carry my Canon 50D and my Canon Rebel t2i as a backup, which sometimes takes point depending on the situation. I like to carry my Canon 10-18mm wide angle, my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 for those tricky low light situations where I need a fast lens, something long like the Canon 75-300 and an all purpose Tamron 18-200mm lens. Oh and I cannot forget my trusty 10-Stop ND filter just in case I happen to stumble upon some water here smack dab in the middle of the country!Feedback
Get an ND filter! Yes you'll need one! Absolutely a must have for any landscape photographer. You can add so much more drama to your shots with them in your bag. Also don't be afraid to try unique perspectives which may often require you to take a risk with your equipment. Always always be safe, but try something edgy and different I promise it'll be worth it in the end!
