Behind The Lens

Location

I had only been trying to grow Dahlias for about a year or two, here in Stuttgart, Ark USA. With disastrous results....I can kill a Plastic Flower.......I was NOT happy, I had good FOLIAGE, but not many flowers. THIS was only one of about four that came up with blooms......I was able to get my Lumix ZS20, later in the afternoon on a partly cloudy day, and take this shot...I took two pictures, and only this one came out! Then the next day, we had a storm, and it was laying, dying, in the mud.....The stem broken....I gave up on them at that moment, and now grow weeds. Which are thriving!

Time

It was taken about four in the afternoon, partly cloudy day. This is straight from the camera, no editing..With a Lumix DMC ZS20........

Lighting

Not really...Late afternoon, partly cloudy with a diffused atmospheric feel.....No flash or enhancements......Just walked out, took a few shots and went back inside!

Equipment

Lumix (Panasonic) DMC ZS20..Its a point and shoot. I call them Purse Cameras....They are real small and can fit in a pocket, and this one sold for about $200.00............No tripod, flash or anything special....Just Shot and went back in the house...I DO LOVE the Lumix Brand. This has 22 zoom, macro, all kinds of bells and whistles, and multiple Focusing Boxes..It has a Leica lens......I will never be without my trusty Lumix......

Inspiration

My neighbor grew these and hers were spectacular...I was jealous....Insanely so....I tried, and failed....MUCH to her amusement.......I had tried for a while to get these temperamental flowers to bloom. I only had a few that bloomed out.....And they were wimpy and underdeveloped looking.....But I walked out to my garden, and THIS ONE was Awesome!!! I ran back in and got the camera and took a few frames....Thinking I would have the Next Day, when it would be full sun, to Get More.....Wrong. It stormed that night, and it killed my One Pretty Flower. It was laying in the mud....I pulled them all up and gave up on gardening.......Dahlias are just not in My Stars, I guess. But my WEEDS are doing very well.......

Editing

No processing at all.. I didn't use a flash, tripod or anything.....Just hand held and straight to the site......

In my camera bag

I have an ancient (9 yr old) SanyoVPC-E2100, Bridge Camera, that is my Go To camera. BUT its aging badly......Its like 5 pounds, so I got this Light Weight Pocket Camera...A LumixDMC ZS20, on Amazon, for about $200.00, give or take..........When I carry a bag, which is rare (I usually cram it all in my purse), I take my cleaner and blower, my Monopod, (maybe my tripod), cleaner rag, both Sanyo and Lumix cameras, extra batteries and Disc cards......I have lately learned the joys of an IPHONE 6 camera! I love it!

Feedback

Be at the right place at the right time....Which is very hard! LOL.....But mostly, Don't Give Up......I came out several times a day, crack of dawn, at dusk, for over two weeks. Waiting.......Persistence pays.......I didn't leave the house much..I saw that a Few WERE Gonna bloom, and I wanted to Be There at the Moment of Glory! So to speak......Luck plays a big part.....But, mostly, don't give up...Be ready when the Moment Arises.....And Please! TAKE MORE THAN TWO PICTURES! Never assume you will have a Second Chance...Nature waits for No One......Sadly....
