Location
This photo is taken not far away from my home. The river Pyhäjoki runs by my house in Matkaniva, Finland.Time
It's quite late in the evening. The summer sun sets very late in the Northern Finland.Lighting
I use small aperture trying to get the photo as sharp as possible. Also, I shoot on aperture priority and let the camera decide the shutter speed.Equipment
I shot this with my loyal Canon EOS 50D. I used one of my favorite lenses, the 40mm STM f2.8 lens. With this kind of shot, you have to use tripod. I had my Velbon cheap-o tripod with me. It's not that sturdy, but did the job.Inspiration
The sunsets in the Northern Finland are quite spectacular in the summertime. The land is flat so you can see quite a lot of sky. And the river is not far from the back yard, so I love to take pictures of the sunsets on the river.Editing
The shot is edited just a little bit in the Lightroom. Back in those days Lightroom was my only editing tool. Nowadays I would edit this photo in Photoshop and Nik's tools, too.In my camera bag
I use the 50D in every situation. Now my favorite lens is the 24mm f2.8 STM lens. I have an old 70-210mm lens, too, and it works well when I need a little longer lens. When I get really creative, I use my Lensbaby Scout lens.Feedback
The one advice I could give to all photographers: keep your tripod with you! I have many tripods but hardly ever carry them with me. That results in shaken and unsharp photos. Invest in a light but sturdy tripod and you'll get better photos instantly.
