This photo was taken by me on a spring evening when I had stepped outside and saw how beautiful the sunset was. There were some rare clouds that we only get to see a few times a year and the color of it all amazed me, I couldn't resist. I stood on my front porch and snapped off several shots and this one was the best.Time
This is one of my favorite shots because its all just natural light right before the sun had completely set. The trees look like they're in the dark, but the sky is still a vibrant pink, and if you look close enough you can see the darker blue sky underneath those fantastic clouds.Lighting
There was just a little bit of light left in the sky, hence the vibrant pink, that gave such great definition to the clouds. The lighting is natural light, about 8-10 minutes before the sun had completely set.Equipment
Surprisingly enough, my battery on my camera was dead so I grabbed my cell phone and took some shots. I wasn't sure how they would turn out but I think the end result was pretty great! It did much better than I was expecting in that kind of low light. I was very pleased!Inspiration
I have a large picture window in my living room and was doing some computer work and looked up to see the amazing clouds against the pink sunset. The local news was on talking about how rare clouds were but I had to take a minute to finish up my work. I grabbed my phone and ran out my front door to try to get some shots of the clouds they were talking about before it got dark. I'm so glad I waited a few minutes before I went out there and so I could get some wonderful photos of the amazing show that nature was putting on for us all.Editing
This photo is an as-is photo, meaning I transferred it from my phone to my computer and it didn't require any additional work done to it. The color of the sky was so vibrant that I just left it alone. I got really lucky on this photo and let nature do all the work.In my camera bag
Since I'm an amateur photographer and still learning with everything that I do and every shot I take, I always have my Cannon D60, a 24-80mm lens, and extra battery, and my iPhone.Feedback
Sunsets are always fun to shoot, and since the light is changing, literally every second of every minute, I find it best to take as many shots as possible and the best one will be buried somewhere in the bunch of them. The naked eye doesn't get the same perspective that the lens of a camera does so the more shots you can get, the better. You'll never know what the final outcome of the shoot will be until you can look at them all, pick your best shot and hope its as gorgeous as what you saw with your own eyes. Patience and timing were keys in this shot.
