Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Nokogiriyama in Chiba, Japan. It is a small mountain about an hour and half outside of Tokyo. Its right next to the ocean.

Time

This was taken in the around 9:30 in the morning just as we started the hike to the top.

Lighting

Because he was basking, this shot had a full sunlight. Dumb luck on my part.

Equipment

This was taken with a Sony a6000 a 30mm macro lens.

Inspiration

The nice thing about lizards is they like to bask in the sun. I was sitting changing lenses when this little guy plopped down right next me. Its rare a lizard has zero fear like that so figured he must want to have his picture taken.

Editing

I used lightroom to crop the image a bit but thanks to this being right out in the open, no other editing was needed.

In my camera bag

On a normal day out I carry my a6000, venus ultra macro lens, sony 60mm-250 zoom lens, rayvox dcr 250 and sigma 30mm. I also bring a long two gorilla pods, a head lamp (extra light), small pair of scissors, some chopsticks and coffee stirrers. My basic rule is disturb things as little as possible and chopsticks and coffee stirrers are perfect for gently moving leaves without disturbing anything living on them.

Feedback

Stay still, move slow. The number of shots I have botched because I rushed or got over anxious still haunts me.
