Location
I took this photo on my way to a secret beach somewhere on the North Island of New Zealand. I am not allowed to get more specific than that because it's a special place for my husband's extended family. We were new to our relationship and he was showing me his childhood haunts. The crab was hiding under a rock.Time
MidmorningLighting
There was a lot of natural light around, so the space in the rock had a ready supply of diffuse light. No other lighting was necessary.Equipment
I used only my Panasonic Lumix fz20, and possibly a sunshade.Inspiration
I was keenly interested in exploring this place I had never been and was very aware of my surroundings. When I saw this crab hiding in the rock, I got as close as I could to see what I could see.Editing
I made a very minor brightness adjustment on his right claw. Apart from that, the shot is completely natural. In my camera bag
My bag is very simple. I only have the Lumix fz20, a sun hood and a polarised filter.Feedback
Look for interesting subjects and scenes in places where others may not think to look. Find an unusual point of view. Go exploring.
