Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken at my home in my back yard. The scene reminded me of paradise. I have been taking scenery photographs for 10 years now. I just picked up a camera and started shooting photographs that caught my eye.

Time

I was walking the dog outside after dinner and happened to look up and saw the most amazing view. I ran as fast as I could to the house to get my camera because I knew the scene would change when the sun moved. With the setting of the sun I was able to capture this wonderful view.

Lighting

I wanted to keep the image looking as if you were standing on a beach in the Bahamas or the Caribbean. The lighting of the sun casting rays in every direction at sunset was such a powerful pull. The shadows casting hints of what lay behind them.

Equipment

This photograph was take with a Canon T2i. I used a 18-55 lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I am always looking for sceneries that catch my eye. I want to get those photographs that people can relate to on some level or maybe they place themselves in the photograph itself. I believe that a photograph should have meaning and heart to the photographer. These are the things that inspired this photograph.

Editing

I did no post processing. I like my photographs to be original. If I have to change it then to me it isn't real.

In my camera bag

I always pack my Canon T5. I also carry my Canon 18-55 lens. I then pack my Canon 75-300. My last lens is my 28-135.

Feedback

When taking scenery photographs it is best to look for something that is going to speak to you. Look at the lighting, the trees, the water, everything that may be in the area. Look for the right angle to have the lighting help your photograph shine. The sun moves quickly. When the sun moves it changes the lighting of the photograph; therefore it changes the meaning of the photograph as well.
