This photo was taken at Longwood Gardens in Kennet Square, PA. My photography class in high school would take a trip there every year around the time the tulips are in bloom, so it was always my favorite part of the huge garden during the trips.Time
This photo was taken in the early afternoon, probably around noon or 1:00. It had been spitting rain all day and it when it finally stopped, there were lovely rain drops on all the flowers. My friends and I had been walking since around 9 in the morning at the 300 acre gardens, so we were pretty tired but the journey was worth it for all the amazing photos I got that day.Lighting
Since this was taken outside, I didn't have too much say on the lighting. It had just rained, so there was still clouds in the sky blocking the sun, so the sunlight wasn't too harsh.Equipment
I used a Canon PowerShot SX500 IS. This was taken before I had a really nice camera with a removable lens.Inspiration
I was inspired by the way all the foliage looked after the rain. I loved the way the droplets of water looked on all the flower petals and leaves especially on the darker colored flowers. I thought the drops stood out especially well on the dark purple.Editing
I didn't do too much to this photo besides auto-correct it in iPhotos. At the time this was taken I didn't have much knowledge of editing. I didn't even have Photoshop yet. This photo is almost in it's exact form that was before I imported it from my camera.In my camera bag
I now use a Canon Rebel T5i, so I always have the camera body in my bag. I also own a macro lens that I love, so I always bring that along with the lens the camera came with (18-55) and my 55-250mm lens. I also love to shoot film so I often bring a 35mm camera with me. I own a Minolta and a Vivitar, so I usually pick one. Of course I always have tons of black and white Kodak Tri-x film as well. I will usually bring my Holga and some 120 film as well.Feedback
Just go out, shoot, and have fun! If you're trying to get a photo with rain droplets, go out right after it rains so that all the drops are still there and the lighting isn't too harsh because of the clouds. Large places with lots of flowers are great to go to instead of trying to find some around your home or neighborhood. The flowers will look nicer because they are kept by professionals.
