Location
Many times when I am outside shooting backyard birds I set the feeders near a background I hope to capture them, I set their favorite foods. All is generally staged for them at rare and spectacular event like the moment I captured this male Cardinal in the Cherry Tree.Time
Generally I find and enjoy all cardinals about 3:30 EST to dusk.Lighting
I prefer even lighting sunset hours or 10 am but you always try to get the shot anyway if that’s what you are after!Equipment
Nikon, 500mm Nikon Lens.Inspiration
I love, love, love, Cardinals! The cherry blooms were in full bloom.Editing
Yes generally since I shoot in Raw I always post process. Exposure, contrast. Levels and Sometimes filters. In my camera bag
Nikon gear, lenses, teleconverter, Serious stuff I take Tripod, remote shutter cable.Feedback
Always watch your background, have a vision, plan your props and feed nearby. The magic just happens usually.
