This was shot in the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona. We were on a driving tour of much of the Four Corners area, and had seen lots of the remnants of Route 66, and were really interested in this car that would've driven on it.Time
This was taken close to the middle of the day, what a nightmare. I had to lighten the shadows a good bit.Lighting
Noonish is a hard time to shoot anything, but I didn't have much choice. I did like the smooth light on the background as far as you can see, so that background intensity variations didn't distract from the subject.Equipment

We were getting our kicks on Route 66, or whatever was left of it. After seeing the old Indian teepee motel and random miles of old pavement or old telephone poles, and having mental flashes of the movie "Cars," we had started to look out for signs of Route 66. This car, who we called Lizzie, was one of our favorites.Editing

I carry the Sony Alpha body, an 18-55 lens, a 55-200 lens, a Precision flash and a remote trigger for it, and a tabletop tripod. That's my bare minimum. And honestly I don't carry much more than that routinely, unless I know I'm going to need something specific for a particular shot, because I kind of do photography in parallel with everything else I do.Feedback
Maybe try to find a more interesting time of day. Anyone can get to this spot, just go in the Highway 180 entrance of the park and it's not far past the giant logs. In the morning the light would be behind you, and in the late afternoon you could get it to backlight the car, which might be cool.
