Location
This photo was taken alongside the R44 in Cape Town. It was a secluded beach area just below a hill and it just looked so beautifully untouched that I couldn't help but capture the scene.Time
This was a late afternoon. I went on a drive with my family. We had stopped alongside the road and this secluded beach was down a hill so my father and I hiked down. We got our feet wet and we often just stood still to take in how gorgeous this beach area was. The fact that it was so hidden made it feel like an exciting secret.Lighting
Natural lighting was perfect for this shot. I didn't feel the need to adjust the way lighting was enhancing the photo.Equipment
This photo was shot on a Nikon D3100 with a 18 - 55mm lens.Inspiration
It hit me out of nowhere. I hiked down to the beach with my father and when I saw all of these rocks and the ocean, it reminded me of a strange fictional planet and I loved the idea of a strange new world which is what this photo always reminds me of. The fact that I could capture and lock this memory forever definitely motivated me to take this photo.Editing
I used a filter and adjusted the exposure on the phone app VSCO.In my camera bag
For now, I only carry my Nikon D3100 and an 18 - 55 mm lens. I take my tripod now and then but it's mostly handheld shots or a quick snap with my phone.Feedback
Be spontaneous - you never know where you'll find a cool shot. Don't be afraid to play around with your surroundings. Use the natural light wisely and effectively and have a bit of fun if you do any post-processing.
