Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken by the Huguenot Monument in Franschhoek, South Africa. I was on a drive with my parents and there was this silence by the monument that made me calm. It was one of my first experiences taking photos of the beauty of nature and the life around me. This photo was a surprise to me though - I thought I caught a beautiful flower but when I checked the photographs at home, I saw this stunning bee. Timing definitely is everything.

Time

This was just after 3PM on a Sunday in August. We had just had lunch and decided to stroll around the gardens.

Lighting

Natural light is the best light.

Equipment

No special equipment was used - this photo was taken on my phone. A Samsung S4 Mini to be specific with no flash. The ISO was 50, F-stop was f/2.6 and exposure time was 1/3149 sec. with a focal length of 4mm.

Inspiration

The beauty of nature. In my neighbourhood, you don't get to see many beautiful gardens so visiting a place like the Monument, you get to see new colours and flowers and plants. There's something about the colours of nature that just draws you in - quite like this bee actually!

Editing

There was absolutely no post-processing, just taken and shared.

In my camera bag

At the moment, I have upgraded to explore the art of photography so I carry my Samsung S4 Mini as well as my Nikon D3100 with a lens 18mm to 55mm(and my charger in case my explorations are cut short!) I haven't explored much so that's about it.

Feedback

Always keep your camera close by, keep taking continuous shots - you never know what you might find, patience is a virtue, don't be afraid to get into odd places for captures and don't say no to the opportunity to take a photo.
