I took this photo of the Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland while traveling to a music camp in the summer of 2014.Time
It was early afternoon when I took this photo, and the sky was uncharacteristically clear and bright for this area.Lighting
Since it rained so often during my trip to Scotland, I loved that this photo had a clear sky. I loved the blue amid all my photos of castles with grey, stormy backgrounds.Equipment
I shot with a Nikon D3300, 18-55mm lens, with no tripod. I prefer to shoot with a tripod but for travel I had to make handheld work!Inspiration
I was only in Scotland for two weeks, and seeing lots of castles was high on my list of things to do. Eilean Donan was picture perfect!Editing
I lowered the highlights so that the blue in the sky would really stand out, and added some sharpening to the building itself in Adobe Photoshop. In my camera bag
I've acquired a new camera recently, so I always have my Nikon D750, a good zoom lens (28-200mm), a 160mm macro lens, spare batteries, and a wireless shutter release remote.Feedback
In Scotland especially, the rain comes and goes all day. This day was unusually sunny, but it rained before and after I took this photo. Always have a shower cap or something similar in your bag to cover your camera so that you can be ready when the rain stops, or to save your camera when it starts!
