Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while on hike a long time ago. I was down in a glen making my down to a stream.

Time

It was in the fall. Still a fairly warm day.

Lighting

The lighting was courtesy of the sun beaming through the trees. The cover helped to reduce the harsh sun light of the early afternoon.

Equipment

I used a digital Nikon point and shoot, I believe it was a 5200 series camera. At the time I didn't have any other equipment, but it was a great camera at the time. Small, light and compact, great for taking on difficult terrain, and resulted in decent photos. Sometimes, smaller is better.

Inspiration

The photo was staged by mother nature, or so I think it was. I saw the leaves, with the fern and laying on the downed tree the way they are in the photo, and it struck me. I had to take the photo. It may sound weird, but the image spoke to me in a sense.

Editing

I did do some post processing. It was early in my discovery of digital photography, and I think I used Photoshop 7 at the time to make the adjustments.

In my camera bag

Today, I have a Canon T5, along with a decent aluminum tripod (although a bit heavy to carry for some locations), I have a wireless remote, and plenty of lens filters too. I also have a few different lenses, one of the lens I have to get out to use more of and experiment with, is the Lensbaby.

Feedback

I went on a hike when I came along the leaves. Being on a hike in a rough terrain, I often look down and scan my surroundings, more to plan my next step or path of travel. If I had looked the other way or up, I would have missed the opportunity for the photo, but I wonder because I got this image, what image did I miss? I am certainly no pro, but I like to have fun and push my abilities and knowledge. A lot of my photos get deleted (The great advantage to digital). I enjoy in the moment photos, landscapes, and street type photography and most of all, it is the"my time" I get away from the everyday life. I feel as though I am not part of the hussle going on around me, but as though I am looking in from our side, or more accurately, as if I am looking through a portal into a different reality. Play around with the equipment you have. You don't need to have high end equipment, or even a DSLR, it just means you need to take advantage of different opportunities with what you have at hand. Most of all, have fun. Cheers
