Location
This was taken at my home in North east Victoria, Australia on a deck overlooking the hills. I mainly chose the location due to the fact it was just a nice environment to shoot and was in full sun. We could have gotten similar results anywhere but it was just nice to chill out and enjoy the view and play around.Time
It was taken in what some photographers class as a bad time of day-around 2pm. But thats what we needed to get the shots we want.Lighting
the lighting was as mentioned before, the sun. No artificial light or reflector was used in this shot. I hated shooting in full sun so this was a way to make myself try something I didnt likeEquipment
I used a Nikon D7000 and a 50mm lens. No flash, tripod or anything else was used. The shadows were created with a placemat I found in a thrift shop, held above the model.Inspiration
Sometimes inspiration finds you, not the other way around. I found some patterned placemats and tablecloths in a thrift store. I also found a few interesting bits of metal around our property. I just thought they would look cool cast over someones face in a shoot. Im always on the lookout for things to jump out at me. Most of my shoot ideas come from random things I find.Editing
Pretty minimal processing on this one. Obviously converted to B&W but other than the usual tweaks of contrast etc, not much was done.In my camera bag
Right now I have 2x Nikon D610's. Lenses include a 50mm 1.4, 70-200 2.8, 85mm 1.4, 24-85, and a few vintage lenses Im yet to try out. I also have 3 flashes, v5 cactus triggers, reflector........and lots more that I want ;)Feedback
Don't be scared to break the rules. Try anything. Try everything. Some things will work and some things wont but its worth a shot trying. Don't be scared to look outside of "normal". Sometimes doing things the wrong way will lead to unusual and awesome results. I'd rather someone look at my work and go "how did they do that?" than "I've seen that a million times before"
