Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at a family gathering, I'm basically the family photographer.

Time

Mid afternoon

Lighting

Outdoors, mid afternoon and a clear day. Lots of harsh direct sunlight which was hard to avoid.

Equipment

I shot this with a Nikon D300s and Nikkor 50mm F1.4. No other equipment was required

Inspiration

I always have my camera at family events, and seeing my boy playing with his cousins dog, how could I NOT take the photo?

Editing

I always shoot in raw, so a little post processing is always required. No more than a few simple adjustments in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

At the very least I have my d300s and either my 50mm f1.4 or my 18-300mm, usually both depending on what I'm planing on doing that day, a circular polariser, and spare memory cards.

Feedback

Watch what is going on around you and have your exposure pre-set if possible. On a day like this the exposure is the same everywhere you look.
