Behind The Lens

Location

On my way down from one of the lower peaks near the Zugspitze in Germany.

Time

It was around 3 o'clock, we'd just seen the Zugspitze disappear into the cloud.

Lighting

It had been a bright and sunny day up until then, but ominous clouds were floating in, adding some more drama to the mountains. There was a huge cloudburst an hour or so later.

Equipment

Just my trusty little Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7.

Inspiration

The mountains had an Ansel Adams-like quality to them.

Editing

I just put the camera on black and white and increased the contrast slightly.

In my camera bag

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7, a Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR (which only takes good pictures if you use a strict manual regime, otherwise it'll whack the ISO up to something silly and use other daft settings) and recently my other half's Canon EOS 350D (I'm dreaming of a fantastic SLR).

Feedback

It can be hard getting good pictures in the Alps during tourist season, especially if you're not able hike to remote places. It's a question of climbing on things and getting the right angles! Also look at visiting less famous peaks. First of all, the cable cars are cheaper, and second you have views of the more famous peaks from there.
