"5Pointz" in Long Island City, N.Y. had earned an international reputation as a Graffiti Mecca; and was curated by an artist with the tag "Meres One". Murals on a huge factory-type building attested to the high level of talent. In Nov. 2013, this and other works were whitewashed over at night , apparently by order of an owner who had expressed plans - perhaps not expected by everyone to be acted on - to make necessary modifications to allow for residential uses.
