BEAUTIFUL! Nothing like the smiles on children's faces. Innocent and natural. Being a Dad of two daughters I cannot help but truly love this shot. Well done!

Thank you Jerry! I agree. Children are such a blessing and their happiness, smiles, and laughter are some of the most precious gifts in existence. I love when I get to capture these moments.

Love photos of children, you can capture their emotions in a photo. And I love black and white photos...some photos just have to be B&W. :)

Yes, definitely! Some photos do have to be B&W. It tells so much more about a photo sometimes and brings out that emotion.

Location
I took this photo during a trip to New Jersey to visit my family several years ago. We were at my sister's house and the entire family was there.Time
This photo was taken during the early afternoon right after my family arrived at my sister's house.Lighting
We were in the interior of the house and away from windows, so I had to use the flash to get enough light on the girls faces.Equipment
I used my first DSLR camera which was a Canon EOS 20D and a Canon Speedlite 430EX II FlashInspiration
I've taken photos of my family members for most of my life and I used to go through a lot of film. When I finally purchased my first DSLR camera I took even more photos. I live 1000 miles from my family so, when we went for a visit I knew I had to get capture as many moments as I could while I was there. My two nieces, who are only a year apart in age and live near each other, are very close friends. Even though they see each other all the time, they were so excited to see each other that day. I had to capture the excitement and love between them. The smiles on their faces and the happiness in their eyes capture the moment perfectly. What really inspires me to take any photo, as I'm sure with any photographer, is to capture those special times so we can freeze those moments that tell the stories.Editing
In photoshop I converted the photo to B&W, adjusted the levels, and sharpened it a bit.In my camera bag
At that time, what I took with me everywhere, was my Canon EOS D20, an EF24-105mm f/3.5-5.6, an EF70-300mm f/4-5.6, and a Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash. These days I do a lot of concert photography so, as a standard, my bag contains a Canon 5D Mark II, EF24-70mm f/2.8, EF 70-200mm f/2.8, and although I never use the flash for concert events, I keep it with me for before or after the show. I have other lenses, but only carry what I need for what I am doing that day.Feedback
Always have your camera ready to go when you are around children. They can create some of the most memorable moments without even realizing it and if your not ready you just might miss them. It's always best to capture these moments when they actually happen because sometimes if you try to re-create it you may not get all that there is to capture in their actions and emotions.
