Location
I too this photo in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho at the Kootenai County Fair.Time
I believe it was about 7:00 p.m.Lighting
It was late in the day in August, so the sun was still out. Just natural lighting as I sat in the grandstands.Equipment
Sony Nex-6 with a 55-200mm lens. I used a tripod on this day.Inspiration
I wanted to get some good rodeo actions shots, and on that day I probably took 100 shots. I extended my lens and just waited for each cowboy to emerge. It's always exciting to see what was captured when I put them on the computer.Editing
Very little post-processing was done here. Just a little sharpening and contrast tweeking. In my camera bag
I carry a Sony a6000 with a 16-55mm lens, a Sony Nex-6 with a 55-200mm lens, a fish-eye lens and a 14mm lens. I also carry extra memory cards, batteries and cleaning materials. I usually have a bean bag in my car.Feedback
Ironically, I am about to go to another county rodeo any day now! It's important to use the tripod or be able to steady the camera as you sit in the grandstands. The professional photographers have those spots down in the arena! If you don't have that "pass", then just setting up in the stands and being ready is the most important thing. Timing of the shot is also crucial. It's very easy to be behind the action if you don't anticipate.
