It wasn't a glorious day! You should understand them, just look the faces!

Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken in my hometown Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. There is a canal all around the city centre, historically a defense line. Nowadays it is all through the summer and fall used for tourists to discover the city from a different perspective/point of view.Time
It was quite a bright day but as normal Dutch wheather prevails stability at that moment in the afternoon I had to seek shelter under a tree for a heavy rainshower. Suddenly this colourfull view was passing by, a bit pitying the people in the boat for the bad luck in spite of my own arousement that I just made some fine shots.Lighting
The lighting was manual as always but i had to consider the fact they were in the shade of the umbrella's. Quickly changing the iso setting to 400 and opening the diafragma a bit furtherEquipment
I used the Nikon 800E with the 28-300 lens on it which is quite a superb combination. The lens has some flaws but being aware of them it is a mighty piece of glass.Inspiration
I tried on an earlier moment to make pictures of these boats in the canals as they are prominent but never in the rain and when I saw all those colourfull umbrella's I just got excited. The term "ship of fools" came immediately into mind being an historian.Editing
It was postprocessed in Lightroom. Lifting up the shades a bit and turning down the high lights. Being it a grey moment I added some contrast I guessIn my camera bag
I normally have the Nikon 800E with me which is just a superior camera- Coming originally from the analogue days it reminds me often of the image quality of my 4,5/6 Bronica. The 28-300 Nikon is very often on it but always in company of the 14-24 Nikon which is also a superior piece of glass. I am not a tripoddy kind of man . Recently I added the Tamron 28-70 to it.Feedback
Always be on the lookout for the unsuspected moments. Sometimes running around for hours seeing nothing much usefull for grabbing the camera can change in a split second- Rain can offer sometimes specific light moments
