The photo was taken in my kitchen as the light from the window is perfect for this type of photography. I am an amateur photographerTime
This image has special meaning to me. I took it soon after my mothers passing. I received many beautiful flowers from friends and I decided to photograph them as a lasting memory of my mother. Some months later a therapist said that the water droplets most likely represented my tears... It just goes to show that photography is great therapy..a place we can get lost in..a memory we can cherish foreverLighting
I used natural light from the kitchen window. I prefer natural light as it is softer and the flowers look more natural, as if they are in the garden.Equipment
I used my favourite macro lens. canon L series 100mm f2.8. My canon 7d was mounted on a tripod and I used a remote release to avoid camera shakeInspiration
My grief after my mothers passing inspired me to take the photo. Now when I look at the image, I smile and remember how much she loved flowers. She would have loved the photo.. Since then I am more appreciative of natures wonders, and the simple things in life that we sometimes take for grantedEditing
I processed the image in lightroom and adjusted the exposure. I softened the colour slightly. In my camera bag
I just love my 100mm macro lens, it opens up all types of new and interesting things and helps me to see the things around me. I can also take photos on a rainy day inside the house. I also have a love of landscape so have a 24-105 lens I recently bought a fuji xt1 and love the freedom that a lighter system give me especially for travel.Feedback
The main advice I would give others trying to capture an image like mine, would be to slow down and look at the beauty all around us. Water droplet reflections require a lot of patience. I used a syringe to carefully place the droplet on the flower. A sturdy tripod is essential. Take your time to set the flowers in the right position and use live view to help with composition. If you can't see the reflection in the live view then you will need to reposition the flowers behind the droplet until you can.. have fun! Its a challenge, but well worth the effort.
