Location
This picture was taken just outside of Sneem Ireland.Time
This is probably one of my favorite pictures. I was driving the Ring of Kerry (for the first time and on my first trip to Ireland) and I came across this abbey; something about this structure captured my attention. I pulled over and took about 5 different pictures of it. The sky provided a perfect backdrop behind the abbey and added drama to the shot. Interestingly, it was the structure itself that caught my attention and then I noticed the sky and the two together seemed hauntingly beautiful.Lighting
I chose to change this to black and white because it seemed to add more depth and mystery to the abbey. The structure coupled with the sky and clouds added an almost ethereal quality to the shot.Equipment
I used two different cameras for the various pictures I took. Interestingly enough, this picture was my favorite and I was using a Sony point and shoot camera.Inspiration
I was enthralled with Sneem. I walked around the village and got into the car to continue my drive when I saw this abbey. The sky coupled with the architecture of the abbey, graves, and open gate seemed to beckon one to stop and ponder the final resting place of the graveyard. It was almost mystical.Editing
I upped the contrast slightly and changed it from a color photograph to black and white because it added more depth and mystery to the shot.In my camera bag
While traveling, I usually have at least four cameras with me ranging from my Iphone (which takes phenomenal low light pictures) along with a point and shoot camera and my Sony A77ii and my full frame Sony a7iii. Travel lenses are a 50 mm, and 18-105mm, along with my absolute favorite g master full frame Sony lens. In my bag, I also carry at least three batteries (I learned the hard way to have spare batteries on hand at all times) along with a lens cloth and and extra SD card.Feedback
Be aware of your surroundings. Sometimes the best shots I have taken have been ones that were not planned but spur of the moment shots in which something captured my attention. Sometimes I am struck by the architecture (which was what caught my eye in the first place) or in the this case the architecture captured with some graves being in front and the open gate. The clouds were the last thing I noticed.
