This photo was taken in Chicago at my friends studio near Downtown. Was there teaching a MUA how to use the Airbrush machine for this Galaxy inspired look and decided to shoot it after I painted it to show the student and model the full experience of a completed photo shoot.Time
Everyone involved with the shoot met up at the studio at 12pm to get things set up and start with the body painting process. I remember thinking they wouldn't be on time or someone was going to call and say they're running late, but to my surprise, everyone was on point on time ready to get things going!Lighting
At a first glance of the finished piece painted on the model, I felt the urge to see how it truly looks under the sun, it allows you to see all the colors used go to work. We stepped out onto the balcony and did a short mini interview with our model based on what we were about to shoot, and to say the least, was thrilled and eager to get it going! Nothing compares to the ultimate sunlight, but for this shot, we used 2 lights, one above her head about 4ft away from the subject, another light to the right of the model for highlights and a reflector to bounce the light back.Equipment
I used my Canon 60D Camera with Einstein Strobe Lightning Equipment with a mounted beauty dish.Inspiration
The Galaxy Inspired Shoot idea's started about 3 years ago while working with my model. We wanted to create something new yet eye catching and admirable for our scheduled shoot, randomly scrolling through a National Geographic magazine issue that was emphasizing about our beautiful spaced out Nebulas, we decided to give it a try. The amount of color that was on the page immediately sparked an idea in my brain that later lead me to create several related spacey, intergalactic pieces with my amazing models.Editing
Indeed, but not much as it was all originally Body Painted on the models face, only edited size of image and minor corrections of light. From RAW formated image, later transferred into Lightroom for minimal color corrections and balancing, then opened file in Photoshop to tweek, alter, define, pop out all the details I wanted from the picture and finalize it for release. In my camera bag
I'm always on the run, especially in the city where I use my bike as my main mode of transportation, so I like to pack lightly. No need for a bunch of equipment shaking in my book bag for nothing. My Canon 60D rides shotgun all the time with my 35mm Lens and a mini LED light just in case I end up somewhere too dark.Feedback
Main advice I can ever give someone that wants to make something they'd like, is enjoy every second of it and do more than just your best always. Some of the greatest moments are captured when they aren't planned or rehearsed. Have a fun time doing and learning more of the art, and everything else should fall into place all on its own. You're not baking a 15min cake out of a box with simple easy to follow instructions waiting to put the icing on it to finish - you're creating art with life, and that takes lots of patience, love and a very enormous amount of significant passion to create any vision. Thanks for everything @LEEKOVISION
