A project conducted and directed toward the freedom of our lovely animal friends rights. Fur is such a terrible thing to wear in our daily life surrounded by fashion, and we need to respect our planet. With that said, we created this in their name. For the love of our furry friends-please stop wearing fur, wear paint! :)

Great shot. Love the paint. It is truly amazing. I love the body language in your model as well. I have an Emotional Body Language Challenge on right now and I would love if you entered it. It is truly an amazing photo and it fits the criteria of my challenge.

Behind The Lens

Location

This image was shot at my Bucktown studio in Chicago a few summers ago with my wonderful model friend Sabrina who happens to love wild Tigers as much as I do.

Time

We started body painting mid afternoon × began shooting about 4 hrs later after around sunset

Lighting

The sun is ohhh so great! Without it, we'd be cold A great friend once mentioned how we only have 1 sun....that resonated in me a lot. Lights are tricky, shadows are everywhere. We just have to play with it until we are satisfied with a result.

Equipment

For the body painting we used Mehron makeup and Iwata airbrush For the photo shoot we had my trusty Canon with a couple of lenses mainly 50mm. Utilized 2 strobe lights with no tripod, just myself out in the wild as if we were capturing a tiger in national geographic ????

Inspiration

Initially we wanted to produce content to save our tiger buddies that were being slaughtered or mistreated for their beautiful fur. We came up with the concept using body painting as a form of wardrobe instead of using faux fur. Hence the name "Wear Paint, Not Fur!" A bold statement not many wish to stand for, but at the time we were feeling rebellious and wanted to have fun creating art for the world hoping it'll capture the attention it needed and maybe invoke any idea to help and take a stand for those that can't fight against violence.

Editing

The image is pretty raw, other than a few minor edits like the backdrop. Cleaned up a little spots from the body paint that smudged on the white background from her posing all over the place, and sharpened a few spots from her hair. Added a couple of highlights to make the white × black pop but tried to keep it as simple and originally shot as possible. Many people originally thought the paint on her was photo-chopped but when we explained it was actually physically painted onto her skin, made a huge difference in the initial plan of using paint instead of fur for the shoot.

In my camera bag

I've been transitioning and trying to keep a lighter bag with me, I feel the more equipment I bring the less creativity I do. Less is more in a sense. Hauling a bunch of extra supplies isn't really necessary at times. For now, just my camera, a clean lens and a fully charged battery is my go to route.

Feedback

Be patient. Don't get bored. Drink lots of water. Eat lots of fruits. Make sure to enjoy all the time your spending trying to create anything, the energy one emits makes a huge impact on your overall projecto, learn to fail as much as u want to succeed. Our lessons are almost never planned so be easy on yourself and be eager to achieve something new for u, to represent to the world.
