Location
The photo was taken at Pier 39 in San Francisco.Time
This photo came near the end of a very long, but great 20th anniversary. After getting back to our Pasedena hotel room after our alma mater won the BCS title, waking up 3 hours later, flying from LAX to San Jose then driving to San Francisco, and visiting the Golden Gate Bridge we had one last place to visit. To end our last day in San Francisco, my wife and I went to visit the seals as the sun was setting.Lighting
Seeing that this was just my 376th pictures, I just wanted to use lighting from the sun before it went away and the camera's flash.Equipment
The photo was taken with my Canon EOS Rebel T3i with an 18-55 mm f/5.6 lens.Inspiration
My wife gave me the Canon T3i a week earlier as a 20th wedding anniversary gift and, after taking shot after shot of buildings and landforms in San Francisco and Los Angeles, I stumbled across a great subject atop the Golden Gate Bridge...my wife. So, as we were preparing to leave, I had her to stand off to the side so I could get the lighthouse, seals, and my wife in the shot.Editing
No, I did not use any post-processing.In my camera bag
At the time of this shot, my bag contained the Canon T3i, a Canon 18-55 mm lens, a Canon 55-250 mm lens, and the battery charger. Since then, I have added a HDMI cable so I can view the pictures on HDTVs in hotel rooms.Feedback
When taking pictures of people, have them stand off to the side and turn their head toward the camera. Also, don't be afraid to take photos of random things like buildings, family members, monuments, anything that you may discover a gem!
