Behind The Lens
Location
At the Como Zoo Conservatory, Butterfly Exhibit, in Saint Paul Minnesota.Time
It was late afternoon, towards the end of summer.Lighting
The Butterfly exhibit was in a large tent outside of the Conservatory. Despite there not being any direct sunlight coming into the exhibit, it was still quite bright inside.Equipment
Was shot with my Canon rebel, using my baby 18-55mm lense. Chose the smaller lense so I could closer to all of the butterflies flying around freely.Inspiration
The Owl Butterfly had been sitting peacefully on the tree for awhile before I took the photo.Editing
I tweaked the lighting a little bit in Lightroom to bring the background colors out more. I liked how the blue in the persons shirt in the distance made the Butterfly stand out more.In my camera bag
Usually my camera body and a few different lenses...usually telephoto ones.Feedback
In a Butterfly exhibit, I guess it can get pretty distracting with so many different kinds flying around, and people moving throughout the area...be patient, and keep your eye out for a good shot. It's even better with a telephoto lense, being able to capture something off the walking path.
