Location
This photo was taken when i was showing a visitor around my State of Tasmania. We were on the bank of the Huon River near Cygnet. The place was a find for myself as i had never taken the Coast road.Time
We were lucky with the light in the late afternoon giving the initial image a dark and contrast rich content but enough light to take the photo hand held quite easilyLighting
The lighting for the original photograph was not as strong as i wantedEquipment
I used my old Canon EOS 40D with a 17-85mm zoom lens. IS. I normally use a Vanguard tripod with a Manfrotto 804RC2 head but i chose not to use it this time. This photo is -focal length 22mm, 1/400th sec, ISO 1600Inspiration
I get great inspiration from reflections and when i can incorporate one in an already good subject i do. I walked around the rocks till it all looked just right.Editing
I use lightroom as my storage area so i looked at the photo, filled in some of the shadow, lifted the whites, sharpened a little. In my camera bag
Canon 60D with 200mm f2.8 IS zoom, Canon 40D 17-85 1.4-5.6 IS zoom, Wireless remote control, Canon 600EX-RT Speedlite with several gel covers for flash and a diffuser head. Battery grip for my 60D (as if it is not heavy enough already), spare batteries, memory cards/cf units for the 40D. And if i am going away for a longer trip my MacBook Pro 15 inch has a place in my LowePro Backpack.Feedback
I am always thinking of where the sun (or source of light) is at all time. Also the time of day. You get to know your area well so you should be able to pre think the shot. Always be prepared. I have 2 cameras in my bag ready to go. They are for different shots mostly but not always. Know your camera and be able to set it manually right away before that magic sunset goes. We all know they go fast. UV filters for all your lenses is a must Enthusiasm is all we really need after that and we are here for a reason. Happy shooting
