Location
This is a New Holland honeyeater bathing in the bird bath i fill every day for all different birds that migrate to Tasmania to breed.Time
This was a morning splash from memory as the bath, like my house gets all day sun. The winter sun works well in a passive solar way to keep the house a little warmer.Lighting
All light is uninterrupted sunlight. No fill flash.Equipment
I shoot all Canon, Camera is a 5D Mklll, lens is their 2.8 70-200 IS (turned of on a tripod) Camera trigger is a wi fi operated for my ability to be further away from the subjects and preset depth of field for background Bokeh. No filter except the usual UV.Inspiration
Bird shooting always inspires me, especially gulls in flight. My portfolio has many examples of them.Editing
As i shoot in RAW the images all go through Lightroom. This photograph need little to bring the file to life.In my camera bag
Canon 5D Mklll, Canon 2.8 IS 70-200 zoom, Canon 2X teleconverter ll, Tamron 2.8 IS 24-70 filters for both lens variable ND and Polariser filters. Manual lockable shutter release and wifi shutter release for i or continual shooting. Grip and 3 batteries, Canon 600EX-RT speedlight with assorted filters, mounts for use with c 2 camera holster belt when the time to change lens is slower than using My 60D as well a 5D.Feedback
i placed the bird bath position so i could mount my camera on it's Tripod either inside or out. Very clean window. patience. I use aperture priority to photograph just the bird for the background is not wanted and when shooting WIFI the first pressure focuses the bird. Plus given the right light a nice bokeh behind. Use the best quality tripod you can get, mine is a video camera one made to hold lot hote weight. doubles as a great panoramic maker but get the camera level. Most unknown is image stabilised lens need that function of when shooting on a tripod. My Lowepro backpack has provision for my Macbook pro which is good when i am away shooting more than i specific shoot. I also use CF and and SD cards but speed for movie needs to need csrd with good read and write speed 120MB/S no slower and no smaller than 64GB
