6:30 Am at the golf course late December 2010 or so.
The sun came up red and lit the fog.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Woodley Lakes Golf Course.

Time

This was about 6:30 AM

Lighting

The lighting was Natural Lighting. It was just before Christmas. It was cold and quite foggy. The sun was rising very low on the Horizon causing it's light to be of a reddish color. That combined with the fog at that time of year gave me the idea to bring my camera to work with me.

Equipment

This shot was hand held. My camera was either a NIKON D-70, or D-200. The lens was Nikon's original 80-400 MM F 4.5-5.6 Zoom. It contains an E.D. element and V.R.

Inspiration

Seeing the reddish Sun glowing through the fog, made me realize given the right subject, this would make a great photo.

Editing

I didn't touch this photo. At the time, I knew absolutely nothing about Photoshop.

In my camera bag

Depending where I'm going, I'll use my D-200 with either my 70-300 MM F 4.5-5.6 E.D lens (great for packing around as it's small and light), or, my newer version 80-400 MM Zoom. Once in a while, I'll take my 105 MM F 2.8 Micro Nikkor lens if I'm going for our tiny universe or flowers.

Feedback

You have to be in an area that will have fog. And you need to scout out the area you are thinking of shooting in ahead of time. This way you can get exactly what you are going for. Also, you need to be up at the crack of dawn when the Sun is at the right angle to produce the red coloring.
