Location
This was taken at a motor cross race for junior high kids.Time
It was late afternoon if I recall correctly.Lighting
I was positioned beneath the riders. It was actually a bit scary as they were coming right off the ramp-hill above me , but I wanted to get them in the air. The light was a challenge since I was beneath them but I brought out the shadows using RAW editing in photoshop.Equipment
It was the Canon 5D mklll And the 70-200 lens. No Tripod or flashInspiration
I was covering sports for the newspaper at the time as a free lance photographer. I actually am not a sports fan , but I loved the challenge of capturing action and the excitement of the events.Editing
Yes I used the shadow highlight filter and sharpened in photoshop. In my camera bag
Right now I use the Sony A7Rlll and 4 prime lens from 24 to 135. I use a Godox flash and transmitter and Rotolights at night.Feedback
Use a high speed shutter and set the shutter on multiple firing. Try to position yourself for a good composition and be prepared for the shot you want. Some of it is luck when it comes to action, but experience will pay off.
