Congratulations --- Precious! And you are right; our children have so much when others have so little or nothing. "Time is drawing nigh...." Your shot captures the innocence that our children have the privilege of, but so many others have never been able to enjoy. God bless you.

Location
I actually took this image in the driveway of my house!Time
It was almost dark and a hot summer dayLighting
I used natural light on this one. The sun was setting and it caused a beautiful directional lighting across his face and so I did not want to flatten that with a flash or ruin the mood with getting rid of the shadows which are so important here.Equipment
I used a canon MklV with a canon 135 f/2 ( If I recall correctly as I now shoot all Sony gear )Inspiration
I heard the neighbor children playing in my yard, as they often do and love to catch candid shots of them. I saw little Christopher sitting in the driveway throwing gravel up in the air and listening to the sound of it falling around him. I loved the look on his face , as though he was in such bliss !Editing
Yes ! Although it was getting dark and starting to rain , it was not quite dark enough to set the correct mood, and of course gravel does not depict a feeling of relief that his expression suggest! I darkened the background using the burn tool and some painting . I then added rain by using a 'rain' brush and changed from color to much less saturation by sliding the saturation tool.In my camera bag
I currently use the Sony A7Rll and my fav lens is the sony 55 f/1.8 which is always on my camera. I use the rotolight Neo , and a flash depending on lighting and subject matter.Feedback
If you love candid shots of children, just sit outside while your children are playing and capture them naturally. Do not ask them to pose or interrupt their play as this makes the shot look 'staged'. Of course if you are photographing neighbor children, be sure and get the mothers written permission and a release to use the images as you please . I have been photographing my neighbors children for 14 years and even won a trip to Rome in 2007 with a picture I took of this little boys older sister , Cassa Marie. (If you know my work, you will know who Cassa is , I have taken hundreds of images of her !)
