Walking through the Atacama's desert it's like being in another planet. The extremely resected soil reminds Mars. The air is so dry that is almost impossible to walk without carrying eye drops and nasal decongestant in the bag. No wonder this is the world's highest (6885m at Ojos del Salado volcano) and driest desert, with 5% of relative humidity.

All these factors makes Atacama one of the best spacial observation spots of the world and one of the main Nasa's search fields. Water from the Andes mountain range runs off into the desert, forming blue lakes with high content of minerals.
