Fabulous detail, I would not like to be on the receiving end of that stare!

Location
Taken at Tackley Oxfordshire at the Open Day for Canon EOS family day which had a selection of birds of prey available. Other birds of prey were available but not with the character of this Red Kite.Time
Taken at 11am the light was clear but not excessively bright. There were some low clouds but it was fairly bright.Lighting
There was direct light from the front with a dark background to help focus the subject.Equipment
It was a Canon 1000D with a zoom lens, hand held.Inspiration
Inspired by the subject and the tremendous colour in the plumage.Editing
No post processing. In my camera bag
I normally carry two Canon cameras now the EOS 760D and the EOS M which is easier to carry. I always carry a zoom lens and a wide angle lens.Feedback
Wait for the subject to be perfectly still initially and then you can focus accordingly, as the bird moves. Try to focus on the eyes as the main subject and the rest normally looks after its self. Birds of Prey are stunningly beautiful so be patient it is worth it.
