Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the baby's home on her dining room table. I was able to go to her home without her parents knowing. I came over when the babysitter let me know when they left for work. I wanted to surprise the parents with a Christmas present. They always loved my photos, so I thought might be a fun idea.

Time

The time of day I took this photo was mid-morning, just after the baby had her morning nap. She was in a great mood and very curious.

Lighting

This photo was one of the very first photos that I had taken. I am self taught. I figured that I would shut off the lights to make the room dark and use no flash. I went off the lights from the Christmas lights. I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.

Equipment

My camera is a Canon Rebel EOS 7D

Inspiration

I love to have the focus on my person/subject and not have a lot of static in the background. My backdrops are usually pretty neutral for the same reason. I dont want anything to take away from the subject that you should be looking at.

Editing

no

In my camera bag

When I go on a shoot I usually bring with me is a couple of different lens to choose from, my camera, sometimes my tri-pod, my SD Card, my battery pack, and a vision of what it is that I want to accomplish.

Feedback

Patience. The one thing you have to learn when working with babies/children is to have a lot of patience. You have to let them have some control and learn to roll with what they do. I take natural pictures in the sense that I dont try to make them pose or dress in a way that they are not normally acting. I want mom & dad to be able to connect to the pictures.
