This photo was taken at my home. Now days I have a small home studio but this was taken in our downstairs room where I did setup my gear.Time
Image was taken in 2pm but for a studio work time of day doesn't matter. I usually work in studio when inspiration hits me.Lighting
There was two yongnuo flash lights in a octabox over head. Lighting diagram and photo of the setup can be found from my website: http://torturedmind.org/mmm-chocolate/Equipment
Nikon D800 with Nikon AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED at 70mm and f/13, 1/160sec, ISO 280, 2 x Yongnuo YN-560, Yongnuo RF-603N triggers, umbrella octabox, Manfrotto 055XPROB with pistol ball head, 2 x light stands, boom light stand and sheet and paper for the background.Inspiration
Camera club theme of the month was ‘Delicious’. I already took one food photo so I though I’ll make something a bit different. Self portrait was an obvious choice for me but how would I mix myself and delicious in the same picture. Not the first combination that comes to the mind. Chocolate to the rescue. Covering bald head with chocolate was crazy enough.Editing
Final picture is a combination of four pictures to get chocolate on head, chocolate flow and arm position right. In the picture where chocolate was best on bald head the chocolate flow was not continuous. Also the squeeze looked better in another picture. I usually do quite a lot of post processing and in self portraits with remote where you are not behind the camera saying that´s the one it helps that you can combine shots. In my camera bag
My Nikon D800 and 70-200mm f/2.8 is my favourite combination. Sometimes I also carry 24-70mm f/2.8. When I'm working in a studio I try to also remember to bring my D3300 with fisheye lens for documentation.Feedback
When making self portraits don't be afraid of making a fool of yourself. I cannot expect a model to do something if I cannot do it myself. Once in a while it's good to try some crazy ideas. And always keep on learning new techniques on photography, lighting and post processing.
