I wonder if this is Marble. The formations look very close to the ones at Oregon Caves. Great photo!

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken below ground in `White Scar Caves`, in the `Yorkshire Dales`, England.

Time

It was taken early afternoon although with this being underground the time with accordance to light etc would of played no significance or part.

Lighting

Lighting played a very big part as with it being underground it was in complete darkness, therefore the only light available was artificial.

Equipment

To take this photo I used a simple `Fuji f60fd` camera, which is basically an auto focus snap shot camera. I took two shots, one without flash and one with, needless to say the shot without flash was virtually unrecognisable. But this is the shot with flash. I was quite pleased with the result for such a basic piece of equipment. It was taken hand held with no filters etc.

Inspiration

Not only did I want to try recall my experience underground within the caves, I also thought this particular rock formation almost resembled the inside of the human body which I found fascinating.

Editing

The original photo was not quite as clear so I added a little sharpness and clarity as well as adjusting the light and dark setting to try bring out the rock features within the caves.

In my camera bag

I would usually carry a snap shot type camera and bridge camera, along with a variety of lenses. At the time I took this particular photo however, I was only carrying the snap shot camera as it was very wet and dangerous surroundings underground so didn't want the more expensive equipment to maybe get damaged.

Feedback

I'm sure many learning photography would expect to have to use quite expensive equipment and be knowledged in lighting etc before attempting this kind of shot. But as mentioned I only used a simple and basic `Fuji f60fd` camera with flash to get this result. Where as after speaking to other photographers, they have said they had also tried underground photography with quite expensive equipment but gained very poor results. Many found their camera lens would mist up in damp conditions. Something which does need taking into consideration.
