This photo was taken at Marietta National Cemetery, in Marietta, Ga. I am currently a student at New York Institute of Photography and I am always out and about looking for things to photograph. I myself am a veteran and places like this hit home.Time
Being new to Georgia after living in Tucson AZ for 30 years, we were making day trips around so we could get familiar with the Atlanta and surrounding suburbs. We drove past this small Veterans cemetery and it caught my eye, so we turned the car around and walked this cemetery. There are many many headstones that date back to the Civil War. Such an interesting place. This was taken about 2:00 pm on a late summer day in 2013.Lighting
I wanted to get this shot with the sun at my right side/behind me for the effect of shadowing from the trees and taller headstonesEquipment
This was my Nikon D5000 with the 55mm - 300mm, on a tripod. Nature lighting.Inspiration
I am always intrigued at any National Cemetery. These are hallowed grounds where many a hero lay.Editing
Really the only post processing I did was some white balancing and then applied a tilt shift filter. In my camera bag
I now carry the Nikon D7100 and a few different lens. The one used to take this photo, 2 fixed lens; my nifty fifty, and a 85mm. I go no where without my tripod.Feedback
Practice, practice, practice. Now that we live in a digital world, we can take as many pictures as we want and have the results right away. If you don't like the shot, move around, try different angles, different heights and shoot everything. Photography is all about the eye and developing it.
