I took this photo at Seaford Gardens and Tropical Butterfly House in County Down, Northern Ireland. They have wild peacocks roaming around that you can feed and this one just happened to catch my eye.Time
It was early afternoon, from what I can remember. It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect time for photos.Lighting
Natural light is the trickiest to work with. So I recommend having a light metre or, until you’re sure you know which settings go best with what light, you don’t have to work on manual.Equipment
I’m sure this was taken with my Canon, standard 18mm to 35mm lens, no tripod, no flash.Inspiration
Peacocks are such an amazing animal to photograph and with them being so close, I just couldn’t pass up the chance.Editing
I use Adobe on my computer and Snapseed on my phone/tablet. This photo doesn’t have much editing. Just a little tweak for highlights and saturation. In my camera bag
I have two equipment bags. One has my “special” lenses and film cameras in it and then I swap my main camera between it and my “everyday” bag. Both bags also have a notebook and pen because I like to make sure I write down my shutter speeds, F stop and so on.Feedback
With animal photography you need to make sure you have your camera set and ready for the lighting conditions. This can be tricky if you’re using natural light, as it can obviously change a lot but having you camera ready is key. And sometimes you need to be willing to lie on the ground and get dirty or work your way through plants to get perfect shot.
