I was on a weekend break with my wife and some friends in the Forest of Dean in England. We had taken a walk through a natural sculpture park when we just happened across this guy playing with his dog.Time
It was early afternoon in May 2014, quite cloudy, the light was good but very variable as i walked in and out of the forest. I wasn't expecting this shot and was set up for some lower light stuff at the time so unfortunately it was a bit of shoot and hope to be honest.Lighting
In this particular case i got lucky. with an ISO of 800 it could have easily been more of a white-out but fortunately the shutter speed was fast enough to capture the dog jumping without letting too much light in.Equipment
This was a very basic Canon EOS 1100D with its stock lens, no flash. I just happened to be very close to the action when it happened.Inspiration
I wish i could tell you more, and if it was one of my normal type of photographs i would have more of a story. But honestly this was real spur of the moment stuff. Blink and you miss it etc.Editing
None whatsoever and it shows ha ha. I decided that i got lucky with the shot so didn't want to alter it at all. That coupled with my appalling post processing skills probably clinched it!!In my camera bag
I have my EOS 1100D and its Stock 18-55 lens and a Tamron 70-300 tele macro lens. This is all i have so i have to make the most of my kit.Feedback
You dont need bags full of kit (although i wish i had a bit more!) if you have reasonable light and a good eye. Patience is a virtue as is being ready at a moments notice. In a perfect world i would have had a tripod, remote shutter and waited for this to happen but jumping dogs don't work that way. Sometimes its just good to be lucky. This was one of those times. Enjoy them when you can, because you will have to work for most of your shots.
