I took the photo during the Langtang trek in Nepal on April 2011. The guidebook said that the bus ride to the start of the trek is the worst bus ride you will ever have. They weren’t wrong. This year the bus veered off the mountain road and fell into a ravine below.Time
It was in the afternoon. We got to the last village on the trek before making the way back. We decided to go for a hike up to a glacier nearby and then spend the night in the village.Lighting
The weather was great and it was sunny. The sun was starting to cross the mountains.Equipment
I used a simple p&s camera, Canon Digital IXUS 82IS.Inspiration
I was on my first trip abroad and of course I took a camera with me. I haven’t tried photography before that. The Himalayan Scenery was amazing. I was constantly taking pictures and I haven’t stopped since. I started the trip in Nepal and immediately went trekking. First the Everest base camp trek (it was actually the first trek I did in my life), then I did the Annapurna Circuit trek. I planned to do those two treks In advance and I wasn’t sure which one to do next, I wanted to go on a trek that had something different from the previous. After talking to a Canadian that lived and worked in Nepal I decided to go on the Langtang trek. Clouds are one of my favourite subjects so I was sensitive enough to spot the one in the picture.Editing
Gamma correction to enhance the shadows and add contrast. I used a mask to prevent it from affecting the cloud. I added a light Vignette. To draw focus to the cloud and the mountain top, I used a blur layer to blur the lower and side areas. I also added exposure to the dark mountain side in the right low corner that was totally blackened. In my camera bag

Go somewhere far away (-: Don’t be in a hurry to go back, explore the side attractions in the area. If I haven’t listened to my sister who wanted to stay in the village and do the glacier hike, I wouldn’t have this photo. Try to diversify the locations in your trip area. Ask for recommendations and information about each location and find out what makes it unique. Travel with another person, it will make you change your routine pace and take different photos. Stop and Look back frequently, even if you’re going back in the same path. Remember that clouds change in a matter of seconds so don’t waste time trying to take a perfect shot.
