Location
We were visiting my father in law in a rural part of central Ohio. He has dogs, chickens and horses and a lot of land. My son Jaxon likes to help with the horses and fell in love with one of the chickens and named it Lucy. When Jaxon went out to help feed them I followed with my camera and was able to get a few shots of him walking Lucy.Time
This photo was taken in early fall around 7:30 in the morning. Jaxon had gotten up early to help his Papaw feed the chickens and help around the barn with the horses.Lighting
I used natural lighting with this photo. The barn and chickens are in a good spot to get morning light.Equipment
The camera I used was a Nikon Coolpix L810. We bought this camera before we invested in a DSLR to be sure we'd be happy with something a little bit bigger and to be sure we could take care of a bigger camera. I have been really impressed with the photos we were able to get with it.Inspiration
I had taken pictures of Jaxon at the barn previously and I really enjoyed them. I made it a point to follow Jaxon to the barn when he went to feed the chickens. Jaxon is a high energy kid and the photos my wife and I enjoy the most are the candid ones. I knew where I wanted to get the picture but I had to wait for Jaxon to have the chicken and to walk in front of the barn where the doors meet with the latch. I thought having more than just the barn wall would add a little to the picture.Editing
For my post processing I use iPhoto's tools. I can usually get everything out of a photo that I am looking for with iPhoto. In my camera bag
I try not to carry a lot in my bag. I usually have my hands full with 3 dogs and our 5 year old so I need to be able to move quick. I now carry in my bag a Nikon D3200, 18-55mm lens, a tripod and an extra SD card.Feedback
Old barns and structures always provide interesting shots. I think the colors, a little faded and in the fall can really make a photo look special. When we pack our truck to go anywhere, especially somewhere we'll be spending time outside I always pack my cameras and computer first.
