I took this photo in my bedroom mirror.Time
This photo was taken some time in the afternoon. Since I was in my bedroom, I opened the blinds and the door to the backyard to let in as much natural light as possible.Lighting
I try to utilize natural light as much as possible. Even though I was in my bedroom, I opened the blinds up and a door that leads to the backyard to let in as much light as possible.Equipment
I was using my Canon 5D Mark ii with a 50mm prime.Inspiration
At the time I took this, I was in an interesting photography class. Photography 101 was supposed to be more about camera basics but the teacher I had was more the artistic type. She was less concerned with technical aspects and more about creativity. One of our assignments for portraiture was to take a "selfie" and that one of the final portraitures mounted and presented had to be one of our selfies. I ended up presenting another "selfie" but I like that this image doesn't really follow any of the "rules" of photography. It just is what it is and turned out pretty interesting.Editing
I always shoot RAW so of course I worked with exposure a little bit. I also ran an action through Photoshop to give it that coloration. I think it adds a moodiness to the image. In my camera bag
My only camera is my Canon 5D Mark ii. I have a few different lenses, but I always have my Canon 50mm 1.4 prime and my new baby Canon 24-105mm f/4L.Feedback
This assignment stumped me for quite a while. I literally took this the day before it was due. I was at a point of giving up on it when I looked up into a mirror and just shot this. Sometimes, letting things happen organically and being less concerned with perfect technique and composition, you get a winner. If an image is interesting to look at, imperfect doesn't matter.
